Women track stars do well throughout Midwest

The Ohio Northern indoor track and field team scattered across the Midwest on Saturday, competing successfully in three separate meets.

The Polar Bears had athletes at the Indiana Relays, hosted by Big 10 member Indiana, the Findlay Open, hosted by NCAA Divison II foe Findlay, and the SPIRE Midwest Open, a meet in Geneva consisting primarily of NCAA Division II and III schools.

Junior Maddy Reed (Piketon) had an impressive performance against Division I competition, tying for third in the pole vault at the Indiana Relays at Gladstein Fieldhouse Bloomington, Ind.

Reed cleared 12' 3/4" and tied for third with Kassadee Ifft of Notre Dame and Rachel Coghill of Cincinnati.

Junior Avery Ewing (Kokomo, Ind./Eastern) traveled to Northeast Ohio and finished fourth in the 800-meter run at the SPIRE Midwest Open in Geneva.

Ewing finished fourth out of 56 in the event in 2:19.07.

At Findlay, freshman Stella DeWitt (Weston/Cardinal Stritch Catholic) led the Polar Bears with a second place finish in the long jump with a leap of 5.36 meters (17' 7").

Sophomore Zoe Schilling (East Sparta/Canton Central Catholic) was third in the 3,000-meter run in 11:04.91. She finished ahead of junior teammate Kristina Myers(Orient/Central Crossing), who was eighth in 11:18.70.

Senior Elizabeth Werner (Batesville) was fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 10.09 meters (33' 1 1/4").

The 4x400 relay team of junior Taylor Fisher (Wapakoneta), sophomore Taylor Lavey (New Baltimore, Mich./Findlay), junior Sydney McCluer (Columbus Grove) and sophomore Melinda McIntosh (Farmersville/Valley View) wrapped up the meet with an eighth place finish in 4:17.63.

The Polar Bears will return home to host the annual Joe Banks Invitational on Feb. 3 at the ONU Sports Center Fieldhouse.
