What's happening in Ada in July and August? The Ada Icon soliciates information about events taking place in the Ada school district this summer. Information will be posted on the next issue of Ada Community Highlights, a calendar, which is a joint project between the  Community Improvement Corporation and The Ada Icon.

Did you know that you could rent the Ada Community Pool for a party? Or, that adults have laps swims three days a week? Or, midnight swims (8 p.m. to midnight) are a great way to cool off in the evening?

The Ada Icon offers viewers a copy of the 2013 pool rules and regulations, which lists prices and all other options available to community residents...including party rentals, adult laps swims, midnight swims and more.

The American Red Cross has announced it's scheduled blood drives for Hardin County in July.  They are:

  • Monday, July 15, from 11:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. at Ada Visiting Nurses and Hospice, located at 4392 State Route 235, Ada.
  • Monday, July 22, from 12 noon until 6 p.m. at the Kenton Moose Lodge, located at 801 W. Lima St., Kenton.

Ali Hess has been named the head softball coach at Ohio Northern University.

Hess is only the fifth head coach in program history and served as an assistant coach at ONU in 2013.

She takes over for Kim Burke, who went 61-43 in three seasons, including a 13-15 mark last year.

Hess came to ONU after a three-year stint as an assistant coach at the University of Detroit Mercy, where she coached pitchers and catchers.

The Hardin County Red Cross is hosting its 4th annual golf scramble to be held at Veterans Memorial Park Golf Course just east of Kenton on Saturday, June 29, in the morning.

If you haven't already done so, teams of four will need to register.

Lois E. Linke died at 5:40 a.m. on Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at Hardin Hills Health Center, Kenton, Ohio.

She was born on July 20, 1933, in Hardin County, Ohio , to Kenneth R. 'Skinny" and Leah M.(Hammer) Hinkle, who preceded her in death. On August 20, 1955, she married Clifton Linke and he survives in Alger, Ohio. Lois was a homemaker.

Also surviving is a daughter: Wanda Gerlach of Kenton, OH; two grandchildren: Ryan (Lisa) Gerlach and Steven Gerlach; and 3 great grandchildren

She was preceded in death by: a son-in-Law, Ron Gerlach, a brother, Dean Hinkle and a sister, Leota Newland.

Ada fall soccer sign-up will start soon at the Ada Park shelter house, according to Mark Light, director of Ada soccer.

Dates and times follow:

• Saturday, June 22 - 9-10:30 a.m.
• Monday, June 24 - 4:30-6 p.m.
• Thursday, June 27 - 4:30-6 p.m.

Liberty Baptist Church, 2955 County Road 20, Ada, will hold its Vacation Bible School Monday through Friday, July 15-19, at the church. VBS begins at 6:30 p.m. each evening. Area youth, ages 5 to 12, are invited to attend.

This year's VBS theme is "Diner Disaster." Friday night is family night and families are invited to join th VBSers for skits, games and fun events. Free hot dogs will be available on family night.
