The Ohio Northern men's basketball team fell in its OAC opener to Baldwin Wallace 72-68 on Wednesday evening at the ONU Sports Center.

The Polar Bears fall to 2-3 on the season and 0-1 in the OAC, while the Yellow Jackets improve to 4-1, 1-0.

Senior Branden Rushton led ONU with a game high 18 points, going 7-of-12 from the field and a perfect 3-of-3 in three pointers.

Senior Dominique Royal added 14 points and junior Jordan Martin chipped in with 11.

Jaron Crowe and Kevin Krakowiak each scored 16 for BW.

A three pointer from Rushton with 4:16 to play cut the Baldwin Wallace lead to 65-64.

Freshman Kristin Sessler has been named Honorable Mention All Great Lakes Region in voting done by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).

This season, Sessler played and started in all 28 matches.

She led the team with 481 digs and was third on the team with 177 kills.

For her efforts during the season, she was named Second Team All-OAC.

Ohio Northern posted a 19-9 record and finished tied for third in the OAC with a 7-2 mark.

The second of four Saturday handmade holiday workshops takes place on Dec. 7 at Health Check, 117 S. Main St., Ada.

Every Saturday between now and Christmas from 1-2 p.m. attendees will create a spectacular and unique item for themselves or perfect for that holiday gift giving.

Glenn Eugene "Gene" Zimmerly, 78, died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013 at 1:05 a.m. at Richland Manor, Bluffton, Ohio.

He suffered a stroke 19 years ago and stayed home for 16 ½ years then spent the last 2 ½ years at Richland Manor.

He was born on Jan. 1, 1936, in Allen County, Ohio to Glenn L. and Helen J. (Allstetter) Zimmerly, who preceded him in death. On Sept. 25, 1955 he married Carolyn Joyce McElwain and she survives in Lima.

Ada Lions are spreading Christmas cheer this month.

On Saturday, Dec. 14, the Lions invite Ada youth grades kindergarten to grade 6 to join them for free Christmas movies at the Ada Theatre.

According to the Lions, chaperones will be provided, but parents are welcome to stay.

The Ada Lions will provide entry to the movie and one snack pack for each child. The snack pack includes one small pop and one small popcorn. Parents’ entry will also be provided minus the snack pack.

Two movies are on the schedule:
Noon – Frosty the Snowman
1:30 p.m. – Home the Grinch Stole Christmas

Santa Claus is coming to town...again. The guy in the red suit must really like Ada because he keeps returning to town.

His first visit of the season was at the Ada Area Chamber of Commerce's "Merry on Main" on Dec. 2. 

His next appearance is during the kids’ Christmas shopping spree at ReStore Community Center, 210 N. Main St., on Saturday, Dec. 7. For more details about that event, click here.

Then he returns to Ada from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., Monday, Dec. 16, when he visits the Ada Public Library. 

President Heather Cox called the weekly meeting of the Ada Kiwanis Club to order at 12:00 noon on Tuesday December 3, 2013 at McIntosh Center, Ohio Northern University, Ada.  The invocation was offered by Jon Umphress.

Kristin Timperman was welcomes as a guest.

The birthday of member Claudia Crawford (today) was noted.

The membership anniversary of Bruce Neely (December 1, 1975) was noted.
Bob McCurdy reported that Al Baillis is doing well and that he is hoping to attend the Christmas party. Peter Previte is home and is recovering.
