As a community service, 62 Ada 6th graders pitched in Tuesday afternoon to help make the Railroad Park a more beautiful place this season.

Many of the students mulched the numerous flower beds while others weeded. Several students also went down Main Street to clip away wild shoots from the pear trees and planted pear trees as well.

The Inn at ONU, Ada, offers several special events and packages for Memorial Day weekend, May 22-24.

Starting at 5 p.m., Friday, May 22, Doug Adams will perform on guitar and vocals during The Inn’s Summer Jazzinn Blues, held in the courtyard. In addition to live jazz, the evening includes barbecue ribs, corn hole games and more. Summer Jazzinn Blues are held each Friday evening during the summer.

Then, on Sunday, May 24, a Memorial Weekend brunch served from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Brunch is $17.95 for adults and $6.95 for youth ages 4 to 13. Youth 3 and under are free. RSVPs are required and may be made by calling the Inn at 419-772-2500.

Carl McDorman, 86, died on Monday, May 18, 2015, at 5:50 a.m. at Lima Memorial Health System, Lima.

He was born on Jan. 21, 1929, in the home he lived in all his life, in Harrod, Ohio to Ray and Gladys (Jacobs) McDorman and they preceded him in death. He married Ivalou B. Smith on Nov. 21, 1951 and she died on April 17, 2008.

Camp Discovery, St. Mark's Lutheran Church Vacation Bible School is now accepting registrations for their June 8-12 VBS.

The VBS takes place from 9 a.m. to noon from Monday through Friday, June 8-12. It is open to any pre-school age through sixth grade youth. Seventh grade through adults are leadership helpers.

All students who register by June 1will be entered in the drawing for four movie passes and other great prizes. CLICK HERE for registration information.

The group had tits debut performance at Friday's Spring Fever Follies.

Arlene Allison, Cindy Boehm, Brittany Daniels, and Julie Thaxton recruited the students, conducting the clinic, and fostering the interest in these young people.

While the super hero summer reading program kicks off from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, May 30, at the Ada Public Library, it’s one of several library events planned in May and June.

The kick-off  includes face painting, touch-a-truck, 4-H animals on display, summer reading sign-up sheets and a used book sale.

The Hardin County Pullers event proved popular with spectators...all 4,000 of them.

The 7th annual event held Friday evening at War Memorial Park drew competitors in five categories. The day dawned rainy, but the pulling contest went on as scheduled as the skies cleared for a nice evening by the time the exciting and noisy event began.

The weather won the Crosstown Cup softball game on Saturday. Due to rain the game is being rescheduled.
