Presented at West Ohio United Methodist Church conference

The West Ohio Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church recognized Ohio Northern University Chaplain Rev. Dr. David MacDonald earlier this month.

MacDonald is the 2017 recipient of the Francis Asbury Award for Campus Ministry.

The award recognizes individuals who have made a significant contribution to fostering United Methodist ministries in higher education.

The presentation was made during the final afternoon of the 2017 West Ohio Annual Conference at Lakeside, Ohio, on June 7.

There are 162,842 members 1,568 clergy in the 1,020 churches within the West Ohio Conference.

The ONU Master of Science in Accounting (MSA) program has been ranked in the top 50 nationally, and the third-ranked online program, in rankings compiled by accounting.com

The MSA program offers courses in forensic accounting and audit services (FAAS track). The FAAS track will develop skills in forensic accounting, auditing, fraud examination and business valuation. ONU’s MSA program offers a blended format, combining online and traditional classroom instruction.

The ONU College of Pharmacy runs Healthwise. Members of the organization visit Ada and most other communities Hardin County several times a year. Thanks to its partners, CVS and Mercy Health,

Healthwise now has a new motor coach which will increase the visibility of the clinic and provide patients with more privacy. The health outreach services take healthcare to where people are in their communities.

Services are offered at no cost to the patient and include immunizations, tobacco cessation, medication reconciliation, health education and a variety of health screenings.

Two children removed from home

The Hardin County Crime Task Force executed a search warrant at a residence in the 500 block of E. Franklin St. in Kenton on Monday night.

The search resulted in the seizure of heroin, suspected crack cocaine, prescription drugs, drug paraphernalia and $250 cash.

Two children were removed from the house and placed in the care of non-involved family members.

Charges are pending on 3 adults who were present in the house and on one adult who had been observed leaving the property.

The Ohio Northern men's golf team continued its winning ways during the 2016-17 campaign as it posted its third consecutive winning season under fourth-year head coach Chad Bucci.

Northern posted a record-setting performance at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships as seniors Tyler Davis (Liberty Center) and Blaine Ricketts (Belle Center/Ben Logan) earned All-Conference honors to lead Ohio Northern to a fourth place finish at the championships.

Ohio Northern's 54-hole score of 903 was one shot better then the school record 904 set in 2008.

Both Davis and Rickets earned All-OAC honors for the second time in their careers.

While May 22 events unfolded below in a Manchester, England hotel

An ONU professor and two of his students lived through a harrowing experience in Manchester, England, on May 22.  Unfolding below them in their hotel rooms, about a mile away from the Adriana Grande concert, was a scene of mayhem: 22 dead and 119 injured in a bombing. Shane Tilton, Ph.D., assistant professor of multimedia journalism, gives the Ada Icon this account of that dreadful night:

How many American flag do you think on the our town's horizon?

Wednesday is Flag Day. What does the day conjure up for you? Freedom, sacrifice, pride?

During the past few years, the Ada Icon has featured homes in the village where the flag is displayed. Since the photos are taken a few days before Flag Day, these residences normally fly the flag continuously.

This year the Icon features institutions, both public and private, and one manufacturing facility. There were three homes we couldn't pass up, so they are included, too.
