1907 in Ada:

April 1907 B.H. Tarleton of the Magnetic Fire Alarm company brought from Toledo Ada’s first automobile, a Reo.

April 1907 The Ada High School held its first interclass contest.

October 1907 Lieut. Holcomb drove his large automobile from Lima to Ada in 35 minutes, the fastest time ever made between the two towns via highway.

Meet Belle. Belle is 6 year old female shepherd mix. She weighs 54 pounds. Can you give Belle a forever home?

To give a dog a forever home, contact the Hardin County dog shelter. It is located at 49 Jones Road on the west side of Kenton.

Hours: 9 am to 4 pm on Monday, Thursday, and Friday. Phone: 419-674-2209.

Generally, about 20 to 25 dogs are available for viewing.

The shelter is also the place to contact for giving up a dog, if you find a lost or stray dog, or if you come in contact with a vicious dog. It costs $20 to surrender a dog, which pays for deworming and immunizations for when it is rescued.

Longtime Ada resident Claire Vaubel is photographed in her garden standing among a popular, old fashioned flower: the hollyhock.

She happened to be wearing clothes that almost match the tall, stocky plant. She lives on East Lima Avenue adjacent to campus.

Residence halls are visible in the background. She has been an active member of the Ada community, and her late husband, George, taught law at ONU for many years. (Monty Siekerman photo)
