The Ada Senior Citizens will meet Wednesday, March 13, at 12:30 p.m. in the Community Room of the Community Health Professionals.  Kathy Jo Dove will present a program, “CBD Oil and Its Uses.”  

Those who have heard Kathy said they learned a lot about how to deal with challenges we face as our bodies are aging. 

President Cloe Cole will conduct the business meeting.  Euchre and other card and board games will follow.  Refreshments will be furnished by Judy Magee.  

St. Rita’s receives initial accreditation

Mercy Health – St. Rita’s Medical Center has received initial accreditation for the newly developed Internal Medicine Residency Program. 

The program is a three-year program and is approved for a total of 36 accredited resident positions. Medical student candidates will be able to apply in the fall 2019 via ERAS (interview process) and we will participate in the 2020 NRMP (match). The first class of 12 Internal Medicine residents will start on July 1, 2020.

The Ada-Liberty Joint Ambulance District announced its 2019 board meeting schedule.

Meetings are at 6:30 p.m. on the third Monday of the month at the EMS building, 530 N. Gilbert St., Ada.

Both ONU lacrosse teams traveled to North Carolina for spring tune-ups last week. Here’s a report on their week.

Men’s team
BREVARD, N.C. — The Ohio Northern men's lacrosse program toppled NCAA Division III foe Brevard (N.C.) 15-8 at Ives-Lemel Field Saturday, concluding an undefeated Spring Break road trip to North Carolina.

With the victory, the Polar Bears improve to 4-1 overall this season. In addition, they conclude their annual Spring Break trip with a 3-0 record after defeating Guilford (N.C.) 6-4 and Pfeiffer (N.C.) 22-8 earlier this week.

Meanwhile, the Tornados move to 2-4 in 2019 after dropping their past three contests.

Purple and Gold teams compete in Flint; Gold team also competes in Kettering

Note: This story clarifies errors posted yesterday concerning the recent winter guard competition.

Ada High School had two Winter Guard teams compete in the Winter Guard International, Flint, Michigan, Regional Competition Saturday March 9.  Both guards earned the honor of participating in the finals held later that evening.

Ada’s “Purple” team was the first to take the floor in Saturday morning preliminary competition at 9:30 a.m. in the Scholastic Regional A class with their performance “Amongst the Start!” 

Kiwanis Club pancake and sausage day tickets now on sale

One Ada event, launched in 1952, signifying that spring can’t been far away is on the March calendar.

Ada Kiwanis Club 67th annual pancake and sausage day is from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, March 30, at the Ada school cafeteria. The club is known for helping youth and the event is one of its major fundraisers.

Last year's event attracted nearly 600 meals.

The all-you-can-eat event includes pre-sale tickets for $7 ($8 at the door), Children 10 and under are free. Persons may dine in or carry-out.

State Representative Jon Cross (R-Kenton) has district office hours Friday, March 15, from 1:30-4:30 p.m. at the Ada Public Library. 

“It’s very important to stay connected to our communities and to the people of the 83rd district. I want to thank our libraries for allowing me to host office hours to meet with and assist constituents with state needs and discuss public policy,” he said.

The 83rd Ohio district includes Hancock, Hardin and (part of) Logan counties.

 

 

Christopher A. "Chris" Wren, 58, died at 8:03 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2019, at his residence. 

Chris was born April 24, 1960, in Lima, to Gary and Trudy (Sellers) Wren. On Sept. 21, 2013 he married Carla Sue (Tibbs) Wren who survives in Bluffton, Ohio. 

Chris was a 1978 graduate of Bath High School. He retired from Time Warner Cable after 30 years of service.

The Ada High School graduating class of 1910 had nine girls and 16 boy members. Sorry to say, that we don't know their names. This photo is from an early Ada High School yearbook.
