CEO and President of Blanchard Valley Health System (BVHS) Scott Malaney has been nominated and selected to receive the Ohio Hospital Association’s 2019 James R. Castle Distinguished Service Award. 

The award honors Malaney as an individual whose professional attainments embody qualities of an outstanding leader and mentor for service to the community.

 

Malaney will be presented with this award at the Ohio Hospital Association 2019 Annual Meeting and Education Summit on June 4 in Columbus.

Polaw Paws visit on May 30 at noon

Polar Paws dogs will be at the library at noon, on Thursday, May 30. These pups are service dogs in training, through 4 Paws for Ability at Ohio Northern University.

Children are encouraged to pet and read to these puppies. The library is located 100 W. Wagner, St., Alger.

The Blanchard Pleasant Buckeyes met on May 20 in the Hardin Northern Ag Building.  

Recreation for the night was ran by Heidi Trachsel. The meeting was led by president Megan Miller.  Pledge of Allegiance was led by Peyton Heacock and the 4-H Pledge by Gabe Trachsel. Roll call was whether or not you brought food for the food drive.  There were 54 total present, 41 members, 7 advisors, and 6 guests.

Quality Insurance was held at this meeting for members taking livestock to the fair, led by Jack McBride.  The members taking still projects met with Bob McBride and talked about their progress.

Children (birth to Pre-K) and parents, grandparents, caregivers, or friends can participate in OSU Extension: Hardin’s Little Sparks: Goo Crew summer activities this summer.

 Lil Sparks: Goo Crew  offers adults and youth a variety of activities to encourage social-emotional, cognitive, physical and language development. 

The program encourages intergenerational learning and a place for adults to learn more about child development. 

The group meets every first and third Wednesday of the month from 10 – 11 a.m. at the Spark Lab in the Hardin County Extension Office unless noted.

John Atha’s loggers cut down an old white oak four feet in diameter on the James Motter farm northwest of Ada last Friday, and came up with a mystery- human hair stuffed into a hole that had been bored about seven inches into the tree.

For many people, spring is the beginning of baseball and softball season.

Whether you or your loved one play in an organized sport or an informal club, it is important to be mindful of the effects these sports can have on the body. Specifically, sore arms are a common health-related issue baseball and softball players face, especially pitchers.

Throughout the season, players’ throwing arms are placed under a large amount of stress, which causes soreness to occur.

Terry Maris is the speaker

The Ada community will observe Memorial Day on Monday, May 27, with a 1 p.m. ceremony at Woodlawn Cemetery, according to Tom Lehman of the Ada American Legion Foss-Agin-Meyer Post 185, this year’s sponsor.

Dr. Terry Maris, professor of management and the former dean of the College of Business Administration at Ohio Northern University, is this year’s speaker.

Dr. Maris served as a U. S. Army officer and subsequently as a management consultant. He has traveled to nearly 70 countries as a speaker, lecturer, researcher and advisor.
