St. Mark Lutheran Church will hold its "Last Wednesday Community Meal" this month on Oct. 30.  

The meal served from 5 to 6:30  p.m. at the church, is dine in or carry out and is open to the public. 

The church is located at 125 S. Johnson St., Ada.

Ada village trick-or-treat is still on for Thursday, Oct. 31, according to the village office. Trick-or-treat times are 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

• Vancrest trick-or-treat, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
• Ada Public Library Halloween party, 4:30 to 7 p.m.

Should the Ada village date change the Icon will post it on the website and on Ada Icon Facebook.

Mitchell D. “Mitch” Parr, 23, died on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2019, at his residence in McGuffey.      

He was born on Sept. 28, 1996, in Lima, Ohio, to Donald D. Parr and Greta A. Miller. His father preceded him in death and his mother survives in Jumbo. Also surviving are his aunts, uncles and cousins.  

Mitch worked for Infrasource of Lima as a pipefitter. He was a member of the Plumbers & Pipefitters Union Local 776 of Lima. Mitch was a 2016 graduate of Upper Scioto Valley High School.   

Funeral services will begin at noon on Saturday, Nov. 2, at the McGuffey Church of Christ, 203 Columbus St., McGuffey,  with Dave Holbrook officiating.

Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 300 E. Highland Ave., Ada, will hold its annual holiday bazaar from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday, Nov. 11, at the church. Please use the courtyard entrance.

The bazaar will have a themed-basket raffle, 50-50 raffle and bake sale.

Lunch menu (11 a.m. to 1 p.m.) options: chicken salad croissant, egg salad croissant, pulled pork sandwich, chicken noodle soup, chili, mac n cheese, hot dog, coleslaw, plus choice of beverage.

Supper menu (4:30 to 6:30 p.m.) half or whole portions of : Pot roast, chicken nuggets, mashed potatoes, corn or carrots, dinner roll and a beverage.

One-hundred seventy-two Halloweeners and seven pets were pretty, scary and original in this year's Ada Kiwanis Halloween parade. Here's the official list of winners and many of the winning photographs.

Donald J. Hartman, 78, died Oct. 26, 2019, at St. Luke's Hospital in Maumee, Ohio.  Donald was born Aug. 12, 1941, in Bluffton, Ohio to the late Cecil and Esther Hartman. He was married to Ruth Hartman and she preceded him in death.

Donald had worked for 18 years at Clark Equipment and later at Shady Lawn Truck Stop in Elkton, Tennessee, where he serviced truck tires. 

Survivors include two sons, Brian (Ronda) Hartman of Holland, Ohio, Michael Hartman of Deerfield, Florida; a daughter, Barbara (William) Hevlin of Ada, Ohio; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and a sister, Dorothy Hartman of Bluffton.

Here’s the Ohio Northern University sports round up from the past week.

Women’s swim team
The Ohio Northern women's swimming and diving team started off its dual meet season with a victory. The Polar Bears defeated Wilmington 138-122 Friday night.

The 200-meter medley relay team — of Shelby Starkey, Abby Schauer, Kyley Stuart and Gabrielle Grant — got things started, claiming first with a time of 2:11.90.

Schauer won the 100-meter breaststroke, as well, boasting a time of 1:20.21. Stuart touched first in the 100-meter butterfly, clocking in at 1:13.37, and Grant took first in the 50-meter freestyle, registering a time of 29.76.
