Back pain, whether in the neck or lower back, has become ubiquitous. The National Institute of Health estimate that 80 percent of all Americans have suffered from back pain at some point in their lives, and the number of adults whose life is markedly affected continues to grow.

Many will be familiar with the feelings of a stiff, sore back after a wrong twist, a bad bend or an intensive workout. These pains are usually musculoskeletal in origin and will heal over time with rest, ice/heat and over-the-counter medications.

ONU HealthWise receives Buckeye Health Plan grant

The Ohio Northern University HealthWise program recently received a $8,500 grant from the Buckeye Health Plan that will expand the program’s services, specifically targeting the area’s pediatric population.

This grant will assist ONU HealthWise in its efforts to expand its offerings from the traditional adult audience to the pediatric population, largely through health screenings and educational programs.

This project provides a focus on health from two different directions. The first is prevention, which will be executed by educating school children about healthy lifestyles, healthy choices and a life predicated on wellness.

The United Way of Hardin County recently kicked off its campaign for 2020 with a goal of $195,000. Honorary chairs are Rodney and Linda Hensel.

"They are honored and excited to be a part of this campaign and are long time donors to United Way," said Phyllis Griffith of United Way.

"They urge everyone to make a pledge and Live United. And, 99 cents of every dollar stays in Hardin County," she said.
