FT. RECOVERY - The visiting Ada baseball team lost 17-1 at Ft. Recovery in Div. IV sectional semifinal action Tuesday evening.

The Bulldogs dropped to 7-14 overall following the defeat. 

FR improved to 9-16 with the win, and advances to the second round Thursday, May 20 at fifth seed Crestview (11-10). The Knights beat New Knoxville 11-1 in their sectional semifinal.

The game was called after five innings due to the 10-run rule.

Senior Jacob Morgan had a hit, was hit by a pitch and scored the only Ada run on an RBI hit by Kadin Phipps.

Classmates Jacob Poling, Cameron Bober and Trent Ennis each added a single.

Baseball: Ada's Morgan voted 2nd team NWC honors

ADA - Versatile Ada senior Leona Dalton was named first team All-Northwest Conference for softball in voting conducted by the league coaches Monday evening.

Dalton won 13 games and struck out a school single-season record 239 batters over 151 innings this spring. The workhorse hurler completed 23 games.

Dalton also led the team offensively. She compiled a .448 batting average by knocking out 35 hits. She scored 32 runs, led the team in slugging pct. and drove in 35 runs to lead Ada in all five categories.

My Money Matters Scholarship winner

Paige Cole, an Ada High School senior, is one of three $1,000 scholarship recipients through a Liberty National Bank Financial Literacy Program.

Thirty-six students in Hardin, Logan and Union counties submitted applications for the bank’s My Money Matters scholarship.

It is a free, online financial literacy program sponsored by the bank, at no cost to participating schools. Liberty is partnered with EverFi, Inc., an education technology company to bring this interactive, web-based financial management program schools.

The Ohio Northern softball team has withdrawn from the NCAA Division III Tournament due to COVID-19 protocol issues.

ONU was scheduled to travel to the Marshall, Tex., Regional and play No. 12-ranked Salisbury (Md.) in the First Round on Friday.

The Polar Bears will finish their 2021 season with a 24-18-1 overall record.

Northern was fourth in the OAC Regular Season standings with a 19-16 mark and won the OAC Tournament this year under fourth-year head coach Jackie Price.

 

 Antoinette M. “Toni” Cramer, 79, passed away on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, at 5:20 a.m. at her residence.

She was born on April 1, 1942, in Chicago, IL, to the late Chester and Angeline (March) Stashwick.  On Dec. 1, 1962, Toni married Loren W. Cramer and he survives in Lima.

Toni worked many interesting jobs over the last 62 years, having retired in August of 2014 as the Account Manager for CSI International, the cleaning contractor at Marathon Petroleum Findlay Office Complex.  She previously worked for over 20 years in health care (LTC) in Environmental Services Management, including St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.

Ohio Northern University will host the 9th annual Ohio Pharmacy Resident Conference, to be held virtually on Friday, May 21.

The event, which allows pharmacy residents to present their research in a structured, juried environment, represents one of only a handful of regional residency conferences held throughout the United States.

The event is hosted each year by ONU’s Raabe College of Pharmacy.

The conference’s presentation schedule reflects the wide diversity of pharmacy practice, the positive impact on the population, and the profession’s innovative nature.

General manager of The Inn at ONU is the speaker

 Members of the Ada Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly meeting at 8 a.m., Wednesday, May 19, in the Ada Public Library meeting room, according to Becky Neville chamber president.

"Our speaker is Kollin Hanes, general manager of the Inn at Ohio Northern University.  There will be time for a 30-second ad update from the membership," she said.  

A chamber Harvest and Herb Festival meeting will follow the membership meeting. 

 

Janette Moore, age 84, went Home to be with her Lord on Saturday, May 15, 2021 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. 

She was born on July 24, 1936 in Langley, KY to Manor and Fannie (Arms) Manuel and they preceded her in death.  On January 21, 1956 she married the love of her life Harry Moore at the courthouse in Kentucky.  

Free USTA introduction to tennis at Ada Park Saturday

The Ada Tennis Association will host a free tennis day at the park courts from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 22.

Interactive tennis activities, games and play for adults and children ages 4 on up will take place at the event.

Free tennis balls, prizes and free racquets will be given out. Participants can come anytime May 22, and stay as long as wanted.

The four park courts are located at 401 N. Park Drive in Ada near the pool.
 

The Association reminds viewers that tennis is also a lifetime sport, which is safe and socially distant.
