Alumnus to receive an honorary doctoral degree

A federal judge, Pfizer’s vaccines medical director and a Methodist bishop, are Ohio Northern University’s spring 2024 commencement speakers.

  • The Honorable Stephanie L. Haines, JD ’95, will be featured at the Pettit College of Law ceremony scheduled for Saturday, May 18 at 10 a.m.
  • Dr. Patrick Garman, BSPh ’91, will participate in the Raabe College of Pharmacy ceremony to be held on Sunday, May 19 at 9 a.m.
  • Bishop Gregory V. Palmer, will address undergraduate ceremony guests and graduates on May 19 at 2 p.m.

The ceremonies will be held at the King Horn Sports Center field house. 

All three commencement speakers will receive honorary doctoral degrees, as will ONU alumnus Jim Halderman, BSEd ’68, an educator, entrepreneur and advocate for sustainability.

The Village of Ada is joining communities across North America in celebrating Drinking Water Week, an annual observance led by the American Water Works Association.

ADA __ The Ada High School softball team walked off visiting Vanlue 2-1 to cap a close non-conference contest and keep its win streak alive Friday evening, May 3.

ADA __ The Ada baseball team scored six first-inning runs and went on to earn a 14-1 win over visiting Vanlue and post their first win of the season on Friday, May 3.

The Bulldogs improved to 1-11 with the convincing victory. Vanlue fell to 1-13 after the loss.

“The kids played a complete game,” said Ada second-year head coach Toby Smith. “We had good pitching, hitting and defense. It was a good team win.”

The Bulldogs followed up their six-run first with five runs in the third frame. They tacked on three more runs in the fourth and after shutting out Vanlue in the top of the fifth, invoked the 10-run mercy rule.
