ONU freshman Jacob Reed wins 141 pound title at 40th annual tourney

Freshman Jacob Reed (Canal Winchester/Lancaster) won the 141 pound title to lead the Ohio Northern wrestling team to a second place finish at the 40th annual ONU Invitational tournament on Saturday, November 4, at the ONU Sports Center.

The Polar Bears finished second of 16 teams with 144 points and had 10 wrestlers place in the top eight in their respective weight classes. Olivet (Mich.) won the team title with 160.5 points, Adrian (Mich.) was third with 142.5 points and Otterbein was fourth with 122 points.

Nice weather for ducks

Saturday, December 4 gave new meaning to the expression "Nice weather for ducks." Here a flock enjoyed the sunshine on ONU's campus.

Lady Bulldogs dominate Perry

The Ada girls basketball team sprinted to a big early lead and dismantled Perry 52-22 in a non-conference game Saturday afternoon, December 5.

Ada ran out to a 17-2 lead and never trailed in the mismatch. The Bulldog girls used good defense and solid offense to put together perhaps their best 32 minutes of basketball this season.

The Lady Bulldogs improved to 2-3 overall with the lopsided win. The Commodores fell to 0-4 with the defeat.

"Overall, it was a good team effort," said Ada head coach Morgan Bass. "We did some really good things defensively together. We did a pretty good job on help-side defense.

Bulldog boys cage Panthers

The visiting Ada boys basketball team led all the way in a 62-51 victory over McComb in non-conference action Saturday night, December 4.

Senior Cayden Murphy led the Bulldogs to victory with a career-high 25 points and six rebounds. 

Ada led 15-8 after the first period and 28-17 at halftime in their first road test of the season. McComb edged within 44-37 after three periods, but the Bulldogs converted 12 free throws in the fourth quarter to hold the Panthers at bay.

The Bulldogs improved to 2-1 with the non-league road win. Meanwhile, the Panthers dropped to 0-2 with the defeat. 

Fire, EMS responded to fire at 220 S. Gilbert on December 4

UPDATED 1:15 p.m., Dec. 5.

A first alarm structure fire emergency at 220 S. Gilbert St. (at Ballard) was called in to Hardin County dispatchers on December 4.

Ada Police Chief Michael A. Harnishfeger issued the following report on the house fire and resulting drug investigation.

"On Saturday, December 4, 2021, at 6:13 p.m. the Ada Liberty Fire Department and the Ada Police Department were dispatched to 220 S. Gilbert Street, a 3-unit apartment house on a report of an active fire.

Bulldog matmen take 2 at Cory tourney

The Ada wrestling team opened its season with a solid showing Saturday, December 4, at the annual, six-team Cory-Rawson Duals.

The youthful Bulldogs won two matches on the day to finish 2-3 in head-to-head team action.

Ada defeated event host C-R 48-30 and doubled up Delphos Jefferson 48-24 to post its two wins. 

The Bulldog matmen lost to Van Buren 42-21, fell to Arcadia 48-24 and lost to Archbold 58-18.

Archbold won the six-team competition, followed by Van Buren (3-2). 

Bulldog sophomore Clayton McClain went 5-0 on the day with four pins in the 132 and 138 lbs. classes.
