Thomas H. Drake, age 81, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 15, 2017 at 4:20 p.m. at his residence in Kenton, Ohio.
He was born on April 21, 1936 in Bellefontaine, Ohio to Jeremiah and Minnie (Shields) Drake who preceded him in death. On August 6, 1966 Thomas married Ella Jean Mullins and she preceded him in death on February 20, 2008.
Thomas retired from Rockwell International, where he worked as a welder. He was a member of the First Church of God, Bellefontaine. He was a graduate of Belle Center High School. Thomas enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and farming. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
ONU undergraduate commencement was May 14. Now its time for law grads. Their commencement is at 2 p.m. on May 21. Aaron Boris, a law student from Ithaca, N.Y., is the student speaker. Keynote speaker is Mike DeWine, a 1972 graduate of the ONU College of Law.
Ada Ministerial Association will host the 2017 Ada High School baccalaureate service at 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 24, in English Chapel on the ONU campus.
Tom Garmon is this year's speaker.
The service is open to the public and all graduating seniors and their families.
Special music will be provided by senior choir and band members. At the close of the service, pastors will pray over and for the graduates.
There will be refreshments in the foyer area of the chapel following the service.
John C. Williams, age 87, died on Monday, May 15, 2017 at 8:47 p.m. at Vancrest of Ada.
He was born on November 17, 1929 in Allen County, Ohio to Robert and Edna (Archer) Williams, who preceded him in death. On January 31, 1981 John married Cleo E. DeLong who preceded him in death on June 11, 2016.
John worked as a Postmaster with the U.S. Postal Service.
ADA — Three members of the Ohio Northern women's tennis team were named All-Ohio Athletic Conference for 2016-17 in voting conducted by the league's nine head coaches.
Junior Lynn Kelly (Mason) and sophomore Ashley Ochsenhirt (Brimingham, Ala./Briarwood Christian) were named First Team All-OAC.
Senior Christina Corbean (Dayton/Oakwood) was a Second Team All-Conference honoree.
Kelly is now a two-time All-OAC award winner as she was also a First Team All-OAC pick as a freshman in 2014-15.
This season, Kelly went 5-2 at Nos. 1 and 2 singles and 8-3 at No. 1 doubles, while battling a series of nagging injuries.
