Young alumni awards presented during ONU Homecoming ’23

Two Ohio Northern University graduates received young alumni awards during Homecoming Weekend in October 2023.

The William L. Robinson Young Alumni Award was established in 2004 by the Alumni Advisory Board to honor and recognize William L. Robinson and the 50 years he dedicated to impacting Ohio Northern University students. This award recognizes alumni who graduated within the last fifteen years and who demonstrate passion and loyalty toward their profession, community and alma mater.

Ada VFW supports Operation Evergreen

Brian Clum, Ada VFW Post 9381 Commander, presents a $600 check for Operation Evergreen to Dave Reese, owner of Kaleidoscope Farms. The farm donated 3 trees to be sent overseas to US military installations where US troops are currently deployed. The Ohio Christmas Tree Association (OCTA) spearheads Operation Evergreen. The 2023 goal is 100 trees from around Ohio. The VFW donation will be used to offset the shipping cost, which is $200 per tree. PHOTO from Ada VFW Facebook.

Ricky DeWayne Morrison was an auto mechanic

Ricky DeWayne Morrison, age 63, of Alger, passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2023 at his residence surrounded by his family. 

He was born on April 29, 1960, in Kenton, Ohio to the late Harlin and Lola (Bailey) Morrison. Ricky was previously married to Sandra Mulholland.

Purple Star status illuminates Ada Schools' engagement with military families

The State of Ohio Purple Star Advisory Board has selected Ada High School to be among the 511 active Purple Star Schools in the state for 2023. According to the Ohio Department of Education, over 14,000 students in the state are part of military families. The Purple Star award is given to “schools that show a major commitment to students and families connected to our nation’s military.”

Drugs seized at Kenton residence

In the early morning hours of November 7, detectives from the Hardin County Crime Task Force were requested to assist the Kenton Police Department in the investigation of a possible shooting that occurred in the 400 block of Levings Street in the city of Kenton.  

During the investigation, a search warrant was issued for a Levings Street residence, where detectives seized a quantity of suspected drugs including fentanyl, heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, prescription pills, and marijuana.
