ADA - Ada entertains backyard rival Allen East Friday for the regular season finale in another must-win situation to keep their post-season hopes alive.

The Bulldogs (6-3, 4-2 NWC) whipped visiting Bluffton 42-17 last Friday while AE lost 27-21 at Columbus Grove. The Mustangs (2-7, 1-5 NWC) would like nothing better than to play spoiler and knock Ada out of a potential playoff berth.

Fifth-year Bulldog head coach Bob Olwin (33-21 at Ada) feels AE is much better than its 2-7 record indicates. "They are young up front and lost a lot of skill players from last year," he explained.

Elida regional has Ada, Buckeye Central, Carey and Toledo Christian

Presale tickets for Thursday night's regional semi-final volleyball match vs. New Washington Buckeye Central will be on sale beginning Monday in the high school office from 8:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Tickets are $6 if purchased in advance with a percentage of the sales going to the school. All tickets will be $8 at the door. One ticket will get you admission to both games. The game has a 6 p.m. start time with the doors opening at 5 p.m.

OTTAWA - The Ada volleyball team swept former league rival Lima Central Catholic 25-19, 25-15, 25-15 to win the Div. IV district title Thursday night at Ottawa-Glandorf.

Perfect Halloween weather brought out many trick or treaters in Ada for two hours on Thursday evening.

Lots of treats were handed out; there were too many smiling faces for any tricksters. Main Street was the "in" place to be with hotdogs, juice, cookies, popcorn and lots of wrapped candy for ghosts and goblins of all sizes and ages.

Vancrest was another popular stop where kids could load up on handful of candy from the many residents who sat in a semicircle to greet the children and fill their bags.

Ada faces New Washington Buckeye Central on Thursday

New Washington is located about an hour east and north of Ada, placing it north of Bucyrus in Crawford County. Enrollment in grades 7-12 is 226 compared to Ada's 392.

The Ohio Northern women's basketball team has been picked to finish first in the 2017-18 Ohio Athletic Conference coaches poll, voted on by league coaches. 

Northern received 78 points and six first place votes in the poll and is seeking repeat as OAC Regular Season and Tournament champions under 17th-year head coach Michele Durand.

Marietta was selected to finish second with 67 points and two first place votes, Baldwin Wallace was picked to finish third with 59 points and one first place vote and Capital was picked to finish third with 62 points and the final first place vote.
