Mornings with Mommy, educational play-dates begin Monday, Sept. 18, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jenera.

Offered for infants through preschool age children (ages 0-5 years) and meet other moms, these dates continue on the first and third Mondays and Tuesdays of each month from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church, 301 N. Main St., Jenera.

Advance registration is required online at tlcjenera.org or by calling 419-326-4685. The cost is $5 per family (not per child) per session. Payment may be by cash or check.

It's this year's ONU homecoming theme

ONU's homecoming weekend is Sept. 22-24. Here's the weekend schedule:

The main registration area will be open on Saturday, Sept. 23, in the King Horn Field House from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Bracelets for meals, the inflatable activities and the football game are available for purchase or pickup at registration. A completed schedule and details are below.

Ever visited Bluffton, Iowa 52101?

We have. And we have photos and a couple tee-shirts from Randy’s Campgrounds in Bluffton to prove it.

Earlier in this summer we settled on a vacation week in early September.

Where to take it?

First choice: St. Petersburg, Florida - where Mary spent her sophomore year in high school, while her father, Richard Pannabecker, was on a Bluffton College teaching sabbatical.

Second choice: Key West, Florida. We wanted to see why Hemmingway liked it.

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — The No. 25-ranked Ohio Northern volleyball split a pair of matches on the first day of the Illinois Wesleyan Classic on Friday evening.

The Polar Bears (4-2 overall) began the tournament with a 21-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-23 victory over No. 22-ranked Elmhurst (Ill.) before falling to tournament host Illinois Wesleyan 22-25, 25-15, 26-24, 25-17.

Against IWU, sophomore Sydney Bapst (Grove City) led Ohio Northern with a season-high 13 kills.

Sophomore Chelsea Huppert (Bremen, Ind.) added 10 kills and senior Haley Potters (Wheelersburg/South Webster) had eight kills for ONU.

ADA -- The Ohio Northern men's soccer team used a strong second half effort to power past Kalamazoo (Mich.) 3-1 on the opening day of the ONU Invitational on Friday afternoon at Kerscher Stadium.

The Polar Bears improve to 2-1-1 overall, while the Hornets fall to 1-2-0.

After the first half proved to be a defensive battle, both teams would find success offensively in the second half.

The Hornets were able to strike first in the contest, as they found the back of the net in the 53rd minute to take a 1-0 lead early in the second half.
