Ada's Myra Berger receives Hardin County Clara Barton Award
Myra Berger of Ada received the Hardin County Clara Barton Award on April 2 by the American Red Cross.
The award was given at the Allen, Auglaize and Hardin counties volunteer recognition luncheon at American Legion Post 96 in Lima.
Those honored include volunteers who help with blood drives, assist at fundraising events, help in the office, and disaster volunteers who assist fire victims.
The Clara Barton Award recognizes a volunteer who has displayed significant leadership and commitment to the Red Cross mission. The Volunteer of the Year Award honors a volunteer who tirelessly carries out the mission of the Red Cross, whether working blood drives, serving on disaster teams or working in the office.
Since becoming a board member in 2004, Berger has been supportive and always available to help with various booths, fairs, and functions every year. A great organizer, she has offered her time and talents to continue the scrapbook of newspaper articles about the county Red Cross.
The Hardin County Youth of the Year Award was presented to Ridgemont High School.
Ridgemont High School students in Ridgeway three blood drives at their school in 2011 with 17 first-time blood donors. These students are an example of how one small school can make a positive difference in the community and across the country.
The Hardin County Organization of the Year Award was presented to the Plaza Inn in Mount Victory. The Plaza Inn has hosted blood drives at the restaurant over the years. In addition, its owners support non-profit organizations such as the Red Cross throughout the year with an opportunity to hold a dinner fundraiser.
In 2009, and again last week, the Red Cross board members served a baked steak dinner prepared by Plaza Inn staff, allowing the Red Cross to raise funds through ticket sales to support its programs.
