Ada's first celebration of National Night Out on August 5 was full of enthusiasm among hosts and guests. The highly organized event was well staffed with Village of Ada, Liberty Township, Hardin County and Ohio Highway Patrol representatives and many volunteers. Some 34 organizations and individuals supported the event (listed below).
Ada upcycler David Devier acquired two large 1940s garage doors without a plan for what to do with them. "They have 12 windows each, making them very interesting, he notes.
"When I brought them home, Mrs. Devier said that we could make an arbor wall for our patio.... I immediately knew that they would make a wonderful arbor wall and set to work to build them into a framed unit with a trellis-type top section." Some window panes were removed to allow vines to grow through the openings and reduce the wind load.
HARROD__The Ada High School boys golf team swept a quadrangular match at Colonial Golfers Club on Monday, August 24.
The Bulldog linksters won the match with a low score of 182 strokes. Arlington ended up 10 shots back in second at 192.
Pandora-Gilboa finished a distant third (220), followed by Lima Senior (245).
With the sweep, the Bulldogs improved to 30-3 on the season.
Ada senior Brody Rister was match medalist after firing a solid nine-hole round of 39. Sophomore teammate Arden Shook tied for second place with Arlington’s Deuce Davis at 45.
Carolyn Sue (Ungericht) Corle, 95, of Van Wert, died on Monday, August 24, 2026, at Vancrest of Van Wert.
She was born on June 18, 1931, in Connersville, Indiana, to Frank and Eva Ungericht, who preceded her in death. On June 28, 1951, she married Jack Edward Corle, who also preceded her in death.
She retired from Ohio Northern University, where she served as Director of Off-Campus Housing. She had formerly worked for the Hamilton County School District and had been a doctor's assistant in Ansonia, Ohio.
MEDIA RELEASE__This year’s Conservation Contest registration is now open for ages 8-19 that are in 4-H or FFA with a limit of one entry per participant.
The contest will be held on September 8 at the Hardin County Fairgrounds Community Building. Check in will be from 10:00-10:30 a.m. with the contest beginning at 10:30 a.m.
There will be special consideration for those showing livestock that day. Participants will be judged in three classes based upon age.
