ADA__In a battle of unbeatens, the Ada High School football team lost to visiting Blanchard Valley Conference foe Van Buren 28-14 on a warm Friday, Sept. 11 at War Memorial Stadium.
Ada Schools also recognized the day as the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks and Military Appreciation Night.
The Black Knights led 21-7 at halftime after tallying a key touchdown in the final seconds of the second quarter. The Bulldogs inched within 21-14 in the third period, but could get no closer.
Darrell Lee Diller was born in Bluffton, Ohio, on September 9, 1934. He passed away unexpectedly after a brief, sudden illness on February 13, 2026. One of eight children, he was raised on a farm and reared in the Mennonite tradition.
He attended Pandora-Gilboa High School and was a graduate of Bluffton College, where he excelled in sports and was a skilled marksman while in the Army Reserve. A self-made man, he took up farming and rebuilding antique cars while also coaching and teaching and becoming a certified small plane pilot.
VAN BUREN__The visiting Ada High School boys soccer team lost 4-0 at Van Buren in a North Central Ohio Soccer Association match on Thursday, Sept. 10.
Ada fell to 4-3 overall and 0-2 in NCOSA play after the road defeat.
Perennial power Van Buren improved to 5-1-1 overall and 1-0-1 in NCOSA play with the clean sheet win.
“Van Buren is a good team,” said Bulldog head coach Aaron Acheson. “They have beaten Liberty-Benton and Bluffton. Their only loss was to Ottawa Hills, and they also tied Upper Sandusky, who is undefeated so far this season.

FROM ODNR__Hunters in Ohio’s Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) surveillance area have additional dates this season to pursue white-tailed deer. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife announced that archery hunting season begins Saturday, Sept. 12, and early gun hunting season is open from Saturday, Oct. 10 to Monday, Oct. 12 in this specific area.
FROM HARDIN COUNTY FAIR__Andrew Allen of Ada has been named the 2026 Hardin County Fair King. Ceremonies took place on September 9. Andrew's parents are Deb and Patrick Allen.
