Diabetes is diagnosed when a person’s pancreas is unable to produce insulin properly.

Type 1 diabetes is characterized by the destruction of the cells required to make insulin, a hormone that regulates the amount sugar in the blood. Whereas, Type 2 diabetes results from the gradual loss of insulin-producing cells or resistance to insulin throughout the body.

One for the record books

DELPHOS - For the second week in a row, the Ada football team gave up 70 points in a record-setting shootout.

But this time the Bulldogs ended up on the winning end of a 74-70 offensive onslaught vs. Delphos Jefferson in a Northwest Conference marathon on a wet Friday night at Stadium Park.

In week four Ada lost 70-50 to Bluffton. A week later, junior quarterback Brandon Hull would not let the Bulldogs lose as he passed and ran for 516 yards and seven touchdowns.

The teams combined for nearly 1,200 yards in total offense and 144 points, the highest-scoring game in Bulldog history.

Just ask an Ada elementary student

Did you know that Legos can talk? Just listen.

“I’m unique because I’m good at drawing.”
“I’m unique because I have a lot of friends.”
“I’m unique because I love reading and math.”

Legos climb the walls at Ada elementary this month and the words on the Legos are written by Ada elementary students.

Using the theme “connect” – appropriate for the plastic blocks – students in Kindergarten through sixth grade are understanding what connects them as a class, school and community.

During a focus time earlier this month, each student identified one way that student is unique and one way that student connects to someone else in class.

More than 150 students are expected to participate in the third annual “Love Where You Live Day” on-campus community service event from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 29.

The students will be involved in activities such as cleaning, landscaping and painting.

The event, which is coordinated by ONU’s Office of Residence Life, is designed to help foster a sense of community service as part of the Ohio Northern educational experience. It is also intended to help them feel a deeper connection go their college home.

It also serves to kick off “Spirit Week,” leading up to homecoming weekend Oct. 4 through Oct. 6.
