INDIAN LAKE - The Ada girls soccer team kicked off its 2019 season at Indian Lake Friday evening with a 5-2 defeat.

"We started out very slow," said third-year Ada head coach Doug Poling. "The first half was disappointing."

IL opened up a 1-0 lead five minutes into the game with the first goal. Ada was later called for a hand ball in the box, and the Lakers extended the lead to 2-0 with a successful penalty kick.

IL stretched the advantage to 3-0 when they capitalized on a run down the sideline for another score.

Jennifer M. Heise, 47, died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2019, at 11:03 a.m. at her residence in Lima.

She was born on June 8, 1972, in Lima to Harry and Dianna (Cordes) Heise who survive in Harrod.  

Jennifer was a medical transcriptionist.  She was a 1990 graduate of Allen East High School and a 1994 graduate of Lima Technical College.

She is also survived by a brother, Perry (Kelly) Heise of Harrod; a sister, Melissa (Companion, Rollie) Heise of Larchmont, New York; three nephews: Isaac (Becky) Heise, Harry Silverman, and Jack Silverman; a niece, Kelsey (Fiance Cody Long) Heise; and her dog, Maggie Rae; and bird, Chattie Bird.

A former “secret society” is now one of Hardin’s County’s best kept secrets when it comes to promoting educational opportunities for women. 

The Ada Chapter of P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization) is part of a 150-year-old national organization that was initially labeled as secret because only members knew what the three letters stood for. 

In the past two decades, P.E.O. International has re-branded itself as an inclusive, forward-moving organization focused on creating opportunities for women students in higher education. 

From Nurse Education Grant Program

Ohio Northern University has received a $200,000 Nurse Education Grant Program grant from the Ohio Board of Nursing for the 2019-2021 grant cycle.

Funds from the grant will be used to increase enrollment and diversity of students in the BSN program. High-fidelity and virtual reality simulation training equipment will also be purchased with the grant funds in an effort to appeal to prospective students and offer technologically advanced lab experiences to current students.

Summer is coming to an end. Ada Schools open house is Monday, Aug. 19, from 6:30-8 p.m. and the first day of school is Wednesday, Aug. 21.

We welcome you back for a new school year. This is such an exciting time for us and hopefully for you and your family.

We have a few new faces and changes this school year. We welcome two new education aides to our building, Paula Bevery and Collin Stephens. Also, Katie Ulrey will serve as a teacher assistant in the preschool.
