ONU women's soccer team looses first contest

The No. 20 Ohio Northern women's soccer team suffered their first loss of the season to Capital by a 2-1 score Wednesday afternoon at Bernlohr Stadium.
The Polar Bears fall to 6-1-3 on the season and 1-1-0 in the OAC while the Crusaders now stand at 6-5-1, 1-0-1.
Northern got on the board 3:45 into the game when sophomore Sandra Thorarensen took a pass from junior Lauren Brown and beat the goalie.
The goal was fifth of the season for Thorarensen while Brown picked up her fourth assist.
Capital would respond at the 23:12 mark when Livvy Hein fired a shot over ONU goalie Erin Waehner's head and into the net.
The Crusaders would strike again just before the half on a goal by Rachel Wintering.
Northern was unable to get much going in the second half, firing only one shot.
Waehner (6-1-3) made one save for the Polar Bears while Maggie Donnellan (6-5-1) made three saves for Capital.
The Polar Bears held the advantage in shots by a 6-3 margin and in shots on goal by a 4-3 mark.
Ohio Northern will be in action again on Saturday when they travel to Baldwin Wallace for a 4:30 pm match.
