Volleyball ends regular season with 3-0 sweep of Muskingum

ADA--The Ohio Northern volleyball team ended its regular season with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-14, 25-11) sweep of Muskingum Saturday afternoon at the ONU Sports Center.
With the win, the Polar Bears conclude the regular season with a 23-5 record, while the Muskies finish at 15-16, 3-6.
Ohio Northern will be the No. 3 seed in the OAC Tournament which kicks off next week.
The Polar Bears honored their two seniors as well, as the macth was Senior Day.
Senior Ellen Grenert paced ONU with 11 kills, while senior Kelsie Zumberger has 31 assists.
Junior Kristen Davidson had nine kills for Northern and hit a match high .474.
Brooke Scott led Muskingum with seven kills on the afternoon.
The match started off tight with the score tied at 13-13 halfway through.
The Polar Bears would use a 4-0 run to extend their lead to 17-13.
The Muskies could not gain any more ground and a kill from freshman Kaitlann Hogrefe gave ONU the first set by a 25-21 score.
The Polar Bears came out firing in Set 2 and opened up an early 9-1 lead.
Muskingum would chip away and cut the lead to 10-5.
The Muskies would cut their deficit to 15-11, but two attack errors allowed Northern to expand their lead.
A service error by Muskingum gave Set 2 to ONU by a 25-14 score.
Set 3 featured Northern using a early 5-1 run to open up a 9-4 lead.
ONU would continue to expand their lead and used a 6-0 run to open up a 17-8 advantage.
Grenert clinched the match for the Polar Bears with a kill up the line.
The Polar Bears had 41 kills and hit .217 for match compared to 25 kills and a .025 hitting percentage for Muskingum.
Ohio Northern will be in action again when they host the OAC Tournament Quarterfinals at 7 pm versus Baldwin Wallace.
