Late Lancers rally sinks Ada softball in NWC title battle

By Cort Reynolds

VAN WERT – The Ada High School softball team fought hard in a Northwest Conference title showdown at Lincolnview, playing in a light mist on Tuesday evening, May 14.

Both teams entered the fray undefeated in league play, with the Lancer girls 7-0 and Ada 6-0. The Bulldogs sought their first-ever conference softball title in their last year as a NWC member.

The Bulldog girls led 1-0 into the sixth inning, but Lincolnview rallied late to win 3-1 and capture the elusive league championship.

Ada still has a makeup game to play at Columbus Grove on May 16 to finish its NWC slate, but is assured of finishing second for the second straight year. Crestview finished third at 5-3.

Ohio Northern students impress at 2024 Polar Pitch competition

Ohio Northern University had 71 teams showcase their entrepreneurial spirit in this semester’s Polar Innovation Exchange elevator pitch competition on April 17, 2024.

Student-led groups created a unique product for the marketplace and pitched it in under two minutes followed by a two-minute question session. It’s ONU’s own version of the “Shark Tank” minus the millionaire and billionaire investors.

Professor Kevin M. Ernst, assistant professor of management and entrepreneurship, organized the event with the assistance of volunteer judges.

The campus-wide competition started in 2008 and runs every semester, explained Ernst, with cash prizes awarded to first, second, and third place.

“It provides student with a chance to explore the concepts of marketing and presentational speaking by pitching the idea and business model to a panel of judges,” he said.
