Snyder, Yoder lead women's basketball to 78-54 win over Albion (Mich.)
Senior Joanna Snyder scored 16 points and junior Cenzie Yoder added 13, as the Ohio Northern women's basketball team topped Albion (Mich.) by a 78-54 score Saturday evening at the St. Mary's (Ind.) Thanksgiving Classic.
With the win, the Polar Bears improve to 3-1 on the season, while the Britons fall to 1-3.
Snyder shot 8-of-12 from the field and also grabbed nine rebounds. Yoder was 6-of-10 shooting the ball and pulled down seven boards. Senior Katie Mengos also reached double digit scoring with 10 points.
Taylor Nugent led Albion with 16 points.
Northern got off to a quick start, building a 10-2 lead, capped off by a jumper from Snyder.
The Britons would respond and cut the Polar Bear lead to 20-17 with 7:24 remaining in the first half.
ONU would respond with a 14-2 run to close out the half and take a 34-19 lead into the break.
Junior Sara Kocian scored five points during the stretch, Mengos added three, while Snyder, Yoder and sophomore Mary Miller each added a basket.
Albion would come out of the break and cut the ONU lead to 40-31, but the Polar Bears responded with an 18-3 run to open up a 58-34 lead with 8:34 left.
Two free throws from sophomore Jordan Kimes gave the Polar Bears their largest lead of the night at 66-41.
Northern shot 33-of-68 (48.5 percent) from the field, while Albion was just 20-of-57 (35.1 percent). The Polar Bears also won the rebounding battle, pulling down 43 compared to 30 for the Britons.
ONU also scored 20 second chance points, while Albion was only had seven.
Ohio Northern will be in actiona again on Sunday, when they face off against host St. Mary's (Ind.) at 1 pm.
