All three courts at King-Horn Gym were filled with volleyball players and spectators on Saturday and Sunday for the Ohio Valley Region "Northern Challenge." Twenty teams of 14 and 15 year olds competed. Brian Hofman, assistant women's volleyball coach at ONU, has directed the tournament here for 23 years. About 600 people attended the two-day tournament, counting players, coaches, officials, and spectators. In the next photo - it's a place to ”crash” between volleyball matches. PAWS raises money for juvenile diabetes research

Amanda Swanson says, “On your mark, get set, go” to begin the walk/run for juvenile diabetes research held Saturday afternoon at the ONU Sports Center. The goal was to raise $3,000.

Amanda, a biology major, is president of the ONU chapter of the Professional Organization of Women in Science (PAWS), the sponsoring group. ONU HealthWise also assisted with the project.

Served to 600 hungry patrons

The Ada Kiwanis Club served about 600 meals on Saturday during the 66th annual Pancake/Sausage Day at the Ada Schools cafeteria during the breakfast and lunch hours.

This is a major fundraiser for the service club, which is known for helping youth.

Serving began at 7 a.m. and, yes, there were diners waiting at the door at that early hour on a Saturday morning.

DELAWARE — ONU junior Maddy Reed (Piketon) tied her own All-Ohio meet record in the pole vault and won the event, while sophomore Taylor Lavey (New Baltimore, Mich./Findlay) broke her own school record in the 100-meter dash to lead the No. 10-ranked Ohio Northern women's outdoor track and field team at the 2018 All-Ohio Championships at Gauthier Track.

The Polar Bears (34-7 overall) finished fourth of 19 teams in the meet.

DELAWARE — ONU senior Matt Molinaro (Sterling Heights, Mich.) posted the lone first place finish to lead the Ohio Northern men's outdoor track and field team as it competed at the All-Ohio Championships at Gauthier Track on Saturday.

The Polar Bears (24-14 overall) finished 10th of 19 teams.

Molinaro won the 1,500-meter run by nearly three seconds, finishing first in an impressive 3:55.44. The senior currently owns the ninth fastest time in the event nationally.
