A five-member team from Ohio Northern University’s Society for Advancement of Management (SAM) won third place in the Student Case Competition during the 2013 SAM International Business Conference in Arlington, Va., from March 21-24.
ONU competed in the Joseph Bush Trophy Division for undergraduate programs against a number of schools in the international competition. The ONU team, which prepared for two months, presented a case analysis and proposal for future success of Netflix.
Members of the award-winning ONU team were Aliaksandra “Sasha” Bolotova, a senior pharmaceutical business major from Broadview Heights, Ohio; Andrew Merchant, a senior international business and economics major from Wilmington, Ohio; Justin Merz, a junior management major from Cleves, Ohio; Melissa Schroth, a senior management major from Dayton, Ohio; and Chi Wo Wu, a senior accounting major from Connellsville, Pa.
A second five-person team from ONU also competed; its members were Darren Miller, a senior accounting major from Sugarcreek, Ohio; Lauren Brown, a senior management major from Portage, Mich.; Amber Dailey, a sophomore management major from Mount Vernon, Ohio; Ryan Abraham, a junior accounting major from Canfield, Ohio; and Jacob Estep, a junior management major from London, Ohio.
To participate in the competition, a chapter must have a minimum of 15 paid members and a program of regular activities and declare their intent to compete before Jan. 1.
Founded in 1912 as the Taylor Society, SAM is open to any student interested in improving organizational management through interaction among practitioners, professors and students. Dr. Michele A. Govekar, ONU professor of management, is the chapter adviser.
