Ohio Northern University to present ‘Nine’
Ohio Northern University's Freed Center for the Performing Arts will present “Nine” from April 18 to 20 at 7:30 p.m. In addition, there will be matinee shows on Saturday, April 20, and Sunday, April 21, at 2 p.m.
Based on Federico Fellini’s film “8 1/2,” this musical delighted Broadway theatregoers in a hit revival in 2003. “Nine” is the story of a celebrated Italian film director, Guido Contini, who has lost his creative inspiration under the looming deadline for his latest film.
Contini attempts to court his muse through the company of beautiful women, all clamoring to be loved by him. Haunted by the shadows of his past, Contini is forced to contemplate the real substance of his life, which will become the material for his next film.
The 24-member cast includes Trevor Dorner (Guido), a sophomore musical theatre and music double major from Perrysburg, Ohio; Jack Armstrong (young Guido), a second-grade student at Ada Elementary; Kayla Burress (Carla), a sophomore musical theatre major from Cincinnati, Ohio; Mary Beth Donahoe (Lillian Lafleur), a junior musical theatre and Spanish double major from Lakewood, Ohio; Sarah Pearl Loman (Stephanie), a junior musical theatre major from Dallas, Texas; Gena Loe (ensemble/assistant choreographer), a junior musical theatre major from Allen, Texas; Sarah Novak (Sarraghina), a junior musical theatre major from Floyds Knobs, Ind.; Layne Schneider (Claudia), a senior musical theatre major from Beavercreek, Ohio; and Kathleen Weston (Luisa), a junior musical theatre major from Grosse Pointe, Mich.
The production is under the direction of John Robert Armstrong, assistant professor of acting at ONU. Lloyd Butler, resident artist, co-director of the musical theatre program and music director of the Symphony Orchestra at ONU, serves as music director.
Tickets are $15 for general admission, $12 for seniors and non-ONU students, $9 for children, and $5 for ONU students.
The Freed Center box office is open Monday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Phone orders are accepted with American Express, MasterCard, VISA or Discover by calling 419-772-1900. Tickets also are available online at www.freedcenter.com
