ONU exercise physiology program re-accredited by CAAHEP

The Ohio Northern University exercise physiology program has been re-accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

ONU is one of only 37 undergraduate exercise science programs in the nation and one of only three programs in Ohio to be accredited by CAAHEP. ONU is one of the few traditional undergraduate institutions without a graduate program in exercise physiology to receive this honor and the only private, liberal arts institution in Ohio to receive this accreditation.

CAAHEP is the largest programmatic accreditor in the health sciences field. In collaboration with its committees on accreditation, CAAHEP reviews and accredits more than 2,000 educational programs in 23 health science occupations.

The peer review conducted by the Committee on Accreditation for the Exercise Sciences (CoAES) and CAAHEP’s board of directors recognized ONU’s substantial compliance with the nationally established accreditation standards in July. The next comprehensive evaluation of the ONU program, including an on-site review, is scheduled to occur no later than 2023.

The accreditation standards are established by CAAHEP, CoAES, American College of Sports Medicine, American Council on Exercise, American Kinesiotherapy Association, Cooper Institute, and National Academy of Sports Medicine.
