ADA - Visiting Spencerville scored in every inning to defeat Ada 19-8 in a Northwest Conference baseball game Thursday evening.

 

The Bulldogs fell to 3-11 overall and 0-6 in the NWC with their seventh loss in a row. The Bearcats improved their record to 6-6 overall and 4-2 in the NWC with the victory.

 

The Bearcats took advantage of 11 Bulldog errors and eight walks to score nine unearned runs despite getting out-hit. Ada actually banged out more hits than the Bearcats, 8-7.

 

The Bearcats built a 17-1 lead before the Bulldogs fought back with three runs in the third, and four more in the fourth.

ADA - The host Ada softball team rallied late but came up just short in an 8-5 loss to league leader Spencerville in a key  Northwest Conference battle Thursday evening.

 

The Lady Bulldogs dropped to 10- 6 overall and 3-3 in the NWC with the loss, which unofficially eliminated them from league title contention. The first-place Bearcats improved to 5-0 in NWC play and 8-6 overall after the big win.

 

Ada fell behind 6-0 but rallied for five runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it a contest. However, Spencerville tacked on two big insurance runs late to hold on for the victory.

 

BLUFFTON — Junior Austin Frey (Peoria, Az./Sunrise Mountain) was spectacular on the mound on Thursday afternoon, leading the Ohio Northern baseball team to a 10-3 victory over area-rival Bluffton at Memorial Field on Thursday afternoon.

The Polar Bears won their third straight game and moved to 22-10 on the season, while the Beavers drop to 16-14.

Frey fanned a career-high 11 batters in the victory, tossing six innings and only allowing one run.

The Polar Bear offense also had an impressive day, notching 10 runs on 14 hits.

The annual Mom to Mom sale will take place between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday at Community Health Professionals, 1200 S Main. The sale is for those who have clothes their child has outgrown and for those looking for clothing, whether it be teen, child, baby or maternity. Toys and furniture will be available to purchase, as well.

 

In addition, several direct sale vendors will be on hand, including Pampered Chef, Paparazzi, and Boo's Bow's.

The Ohio Northern University Symphony Orchestra season finale will be a salute to Bernstein’s 100th birthday at 7:30 p.m.on Saturday, May 5, in the Freed Center. The University Singers will join the orchestra in the celebration.

Performed works by Leonard Bernstein include Overture to Candide, Chichester Psalms and “Make our Garden Grow” from Candide. Also on the program is Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 1 in D Major (Classical Symphony) and Phillip Glass’ Concerto for Saxophone Quartet. 

Bernstein (1918-1990) was a composer, conductor, author, music lecturer and pianist, best known for being music director of the New York Philharmonic for many years.

The Ohio Pharmacists Association (OPA) announced that Michael Rush, R.Ph., PharmD of Ada was honored as a distinguished UNDER 40 award recipient for professional achievements and vision in the practice of pharmacy at its 140th Annual Conference held April 20-22 in Columbus.

Rush's vision for Ohio Northern University's HeathWise program has created educational outreach services to support the health and wellness of the community.
