James Alt was a member of VFW Post 9381
James G. Alt, 90, of Bluffton died 3:06 a.m. Jan. 27, 2014, at St. Rita's Medical Center, Lima. He was born Feb. 15, 1923, in Putnam County to the late Arthur and Elizabeth Nadler Alt. On Feb. 16, 1957 he married Ursula Nussbaum and she survives.
He retired from the Ford Engine Plant, Lima. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bluffton, VFW Post 9381, Ada, and Putnam County DAV Chapter 77.
Survivors also include six children, Kathleen (Chuck) Sehlhorst of Columbus Grove, Elizabeth (Jim) Yarger of Bluffton, Jeffrey (Debra) Alt of Lima, Jerome (Sheila) Alt of Kansas, Joseph (Tina) Alt of Pandora, Jennifer (Jason) Swartzlander of Bluffton, 11 grandchildren, four step grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, 17 step great grandchildren, brothers, Harold (Phyllis) Alt of Shelby, William Alt of Pandora, Franklin (Vera) Alt of Tempe, Ariz., Arthur (Ruth) Alt Jr., of Pandora, and a sister, Theresa Shinaberry of Columbus Grove. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Niese, and brothers, Dean Alt and Kenneth Alt.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bluffton. Military rites by VFW Post 9381 will follow.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Chiles-Laman Funeral and Cremation Services, Bluffton with a parish scripture service at 8 p.m.
