McGUFFEY - The visiting Ada baseball team outslugged backyard arch-rival USV 20-16 in a game originally suspended by darkness in the seventh inning on an unseasonably warm Friday evening.
Ada improved to 3-4 with the big win over their winless non-league rival.
The Bulldogs trailed 6-3 after a wild first inning. Ada edged ahead 7-6 after scoring four runs in the second, then extended the lead to 15-6 with eight more scores in the top of the third.
McGUFFEY - The visiting Ada softball team held local arch-rival USV to one hit and rolled over the Rams 13-1 on a warm but windy Friday evening.
Ada improved to 7-2 with their sixth victory in the last seven games. The Rams fell to 0-4 with the defeat.
The purple and gold plated five runs in each of the first and second innings, then added one in the third to build an insurmountable 11-0 cushion.
Two more Bulldog runs in the top of the fourth frame extended the margin to 13-0. USV tallied an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth without a hit.
Barbara A. Hopson, age 77, died on Saturday, April 15, 2018 at 8:35 a.m. at Willow Ridge at Mennonite Home Community, Bluffton, Ohio.
She was born on July 25, 1940 in Lima, Ohio to the late Dewitt I. “Dig” and Maxine (Smith) Goodwin. On August 11, 1956 Barbara married Larry R. Hopson who preceded her in death on November 10, 1993.
All three courts at King-Horn Gym were filled with volleyball players and spectators on Saturday and Sunday for the Ohio Valley Region "Northern Challenge." Twenty teams of 14 and 15 year olds competed. Brian Hofman, assistant women's volleyball coach at ONU, has directed the tournament here for 23 years. Amanda Swanson says, “On your mark, get set, go” to begin the walk/run for juvenile diabetes research held Saturday afternoon at the ONU Sports Center. The goal was to raise $3,000.

Amanda, a biology major, is president of the ONU chapter of the Professional Organization of Women in Science (PAWS), the sponsoring group. ONU HealthWise also assisted with the project.

The Ada Kiwanis Club served about 600 meals on Saturday during the 66th annual Pancake/Sausage Day at the Ada Schools cafeteria during the breakfast and lunch hours.
This is a major fundraiser for the service club, which is known for helping youth.
Serving began at 7 a.m. and, yes, there were diners waiting at the door at that early hour on a Saturday morning.
