LANCASTER — The Ohio Northern baseball team got dominating pitching performances in a 2-1, 6-0 sweep at Capital on Monday afternoon at Beavers Field.

The Polar Bears (14-6 overall, 2-2 Ohio Athletic Conference) got a 4-hit shutout in the nightcap from sophomore Josh Mohr (Oregon/Clay).

In the opener, sophomore Nate Bye (Thorntown, Ind./Western Boone) allowed one unearned run and just four hits in 7.2 innings and sophomore Scott Beaton (Novi, Mich.) threw the final 1.1 innings of shutout baseball to earn his first collegiate victory for ONU.

To give a dog a forever home, contact the Hardin County dog shelter. It is located at 49 Jones Road on the west side of Kenton.

Generally, about 20 to 25 dogs are available for viewing.

The shelter is also the place to contact for giving up a dog, if you find a lost or stray dog, or if you come in contact with a vicious dog. It costs $20 to surrender a dog, which pays for deworming and immunizations for when it is rescued.

The Varsity Singers annual, free concert for the community will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4, in the school auditorium. “Fire” has been the theme of this year’s show which saw the group perform at the county fair, Ada Music Feast, and in six competitions.

Alex Morgan, Alex Waugh, Reece Evans, and Heather Wells won best performer awards at several contests.

The Varsity Singers are composed of 30 singer/dancers, 11 band members, and 5 stage crew members.

Scott Henning directs the singer/dancers while Jonathan Lischak directs the band.

Birchaven Village will host “Talk About It Tuesdays,” an educational series for active seniors. The presentations will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the Hatfield Dining Room at Birchaven Village, 15100 Birchaven Lane, Findlay. Event dates and topics include:

The Ohio Northern softball team put on an offensive clinic on Monday afternoon as it defeated Capital 9-1, 9-0 in a twinbill at the ONU Softball Field.

 

Northern stretches its winning streak to six games and improves to 17-3 overall and 3-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while Capital drops to 6-14, 2-2.
