HIRAM — The Ohio Northern women's lacrosse team opened its third season of action and 2018 campaign with a 16-9 victory over Hiram on Thursday evening at Henry Field.
The Polar Bears move to 1-0 on the season, while the Terriers fall to 0-1.
Northern was led by freshman Sydney Skelding's (Dublin, Calif.) six goals.
Sophomore Maggie Fuller (Naples, Fla.) and freshman Sabra Woofruff (Beavercreek) each record hat-tricks in the victory, scoring three goals each.
The College Sports Information Directors of America has recognized Ohio Northern senior Joey DiOrio (Columbus/Watterson) as a member of the first team academic all-district team for his efforts this season on the court and in the classroom.
CoSIDA recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.
A mechanical engineering major, DiOrio is currently third on the team with 12.8 points per contest and ranks second on the team with 76 3-point field goals.
ONU senior women's basketball standout Amy Bullimore (Morrow/Little Miami) has been named first team academic all-district by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for the 2017-18 season.

The Ladies Luncheon group will host a gathering on Saturday, March 3 at the Ada Visiting Nurses, 1200 S. State Route 235 in Ada. The event is free and open to the public from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
The group includes local direct sales consultants who represent well-known companies, featuring personalized bags & totes, skincare and makeup, kitchen and household products, essential oils, jewelry and clothing, self-defense, home décor and health and wellbeing.
The Ohio Northern University Wind Orchestra will present a concert, “The Life of the City” at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 1 in the Freed Center.
Paris, New York, Prague, Rome, and Las Vegas are the inspirational cities for the compositions featured in this program. The ensemble will be under the direction of Dr. Thomas A. Hunt. Composers include Eric Whitacre, David Holsinger, Luigi Zaninelli, Martin Ellerby, and Karel Husa.
On Feb. 22 23 new members were inducted into the Ada Junior Beta Club. Current second-year 8th grade members were also recognized. Club membership is based upon several aspects of school including high academic achievement. (More photos on Ada Bulldog Facebook)
