ONU students dancers perform Feb. 3 nd 4 at Freed Center

A choreographers showcase dance performance will be held at the Freed Center on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 3 and 4. The showcase will feature ONU students dancing to a variety of music from ballet to hip hop. Choreographers are from off campus as well as ONU faculty and students.

The program will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and at 2 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for seniors, and $5 for students and children.

Choreographers Nathan Andary, DeMarcus Akeem Suggs, Matthew Roberts and Alexandra Stillianos will be joined by ONU faculty choreographer Elizabeth Cozad.

Karen Lynn Taylor, age 69, died Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. at Kindred Hospital, Lima.

          She was born on April 22, 1948 in Allen County, Ohio to James D. and Maxine (Fitzpatrick) Hamilton who preceded her in death.  Karen married Marvin Patrick Taylor and he is deceased.

          Karen was the finance secretary for the Boy Scouts of America where she retired after working 19 years.  She was a member of the Lima Missionary Baptist Church. 

Joseph Wayne Hovey, 45, of Kenton died in a car-semi crash on SR 68 north of Kenton at 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

 

The Hardin County Sheriff's Office responded to the 7000 block of State Route 68, north of Kenton at 8:02 pm. A maroon Pontiac was traveling south bound on State Route 68 and started to pass a semi-truck. As the Pontiac entered into the north bound lane, the north bound International semi-truck hit the Pontiac.  Hovey was pronounced dead at the scene. Both vehicles came to stop in fields on each side of the roadway.

 

The driver of the commercial truck, David Cherry of Windsor, Canada was treated and released at the scene. 

 

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS — The Ohio Northern wrestling team posted a solid 26-15 victory at John Carroll on Tuesday evening at the DeCarlo Center.

The Polar Bears (7-9 overall, 1-2 Ohio Athletic Conference) won seven of the 10 weight classes to notch their first OAC victory of the season.

The Blue Streaks fall to 5-5, 0-3.

Freshman Avory Winans (Wooster) got the match started on a good note for Ohio Northern with an 8-4 decision at 125 pounds.

Senior Brad Taton (Mentor/Lake Catholic) made it 6-0 Polar Bears with a 9-3 decision at 133.

The 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King’s speech at Ohio Northern will be commemorated with a forum of six people who heard his talk here. The program, which will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Freed Canter, is free and open to the public.
