Traditional and non-traditional Valentine's Day gifts

This year Valentine's Day falls on a Monday. If you have yet to get something for your sweetheart, you don't need to leave town to find a traditional or non-traditional gift.

The Icon took a quick tour around Ada's downtown, asking for tips and snapping photos. There are more options than you can visit in an afternoon (once you get chatting). Here's where we dropped in:

#1 Ruthie's Boarding Room, 220 N. Main. Lots of gifts including candles, candy, decorative items, etc. The shop even has a man cave corner.

#2 Beatitudes, 210 N. Main. In additional to holiday-themed displays, the thrift shop has a good stock of Valentine's Day cards.

A friendly game of euchre entertained Ann McKinley, Lila Bass, Sally Smith and Diana Manley at the Beatitudes community center on a cloudy February afternoon. Too bad pinochle is the Icon's game.

Synergy is defined by dictionary.com as “the interaction of elements that when combined produces a total effect that is greater than the sum of the individual elements.” Science is proving that synergy is improving outcomes with COVID-19 infections and protection. Some of these synergies are surprising and are good news to help move the pandemic into an endemic.  In addition, I am excited when the material I teach to students becomes applicable in the real world! I teach that efficacy studies are tightly controlled but may not be reflective of what we actually do.

Wikipedia makes it sound like Ada is known for having the shortest name in Ohio. Phooey. Surely the top two contenders for Ada fame are, in alphabetical order, Ohio Northern University and the Wilson Sporting Goods football factory.

With Super Bowl LVI taking place on Sunday, February 13, this is prime time to check out the factory at 217 Liberty Street, where all NFL footballs are made. Mike Springer, Quality Manager, took the Icon on a tour and provided us with the following update on the facility as well as Super Bowl preparations and promotions.

Norman Ray Thompson, age 79, passed away on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at 7:13 PM at Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima.  

He was born on August 15, 1942, in Bluffton, Ohio to the late Lewis Raymond and Delora (Winget) Thompson.  On May 14, 1997, Norman married Gloria J. Conrad and she preceded him in death on August 13, 2003.

Norman is survived by his two children: Randy (Laura) Thompson of Pataskala and Kristina Allen of Bellefontaine; a grandson, Hunter Allen; a brother, Richard (Rita) Thompson of Ottawa; and a sister, Norleen (Gene) Neinberg of Pandora. 

He was preceded in death by his three brothers: Edward, Louis, and Kenneth Thompson.
