The Ohio Northern University Symphonic Band presents its spring concert in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts on Monday, March 23, at 7:30 p.m.

The program, titled “Soundscapes 2015,” takes the audience to a variety of places and spaces with representative musical sounds. The term “soundscape” refers to the sounds associated with a particular time and place.

The journey begins with “Crosslands” by Rossano Galante. The piece is a musical representation of Earth’s grand vistas and landscapes. Hannah Layton, a fifth-year pharmacy student from Mentor, Ohio, is the trumpet soloist. The audience will certainly feel the tension of rush-hour traffic in a big city as the band performs “Traffic” by Thomas Doss. One of the most moving pieces of the concert is “Alleluia” by Samuel Hazo. 

One of the highlights of the evening will be a performance of “A Song for You” by Leon Russell. The performance features vocalist Adriane Thompson-Bradshaw, ONU’s vice president for student affairs, and Kevin Mangan, a 2011 ONU graduate, on tenor-saxophone.

Tickets are $15 for general admission, $12 for seniors, $10 for ONU faculty/staff and $5 for students.
