What time is it in your garden? Find out in April garden workshop
By Mark Badertscher
Have you ever wondered when plants will bloom or insects will show up in your garden? The Hardin County Master Gardener Volunteers will be holding a garden workshop to help the public understand when things happen in the garden.
“What Time is It – A Phenology Program” will be presented by Bill Jones, who is a Hancock County Master Gardener Volunteer. Phenology is the science of timing of flowering plants and when diseases and insects affect them.
Knowing when things are about to happen in the garden, will allow for the gardener to know what to look for, and how to best plan and manage issues before they affect the plants.
In addition to the presentation on phenology, Hardin County Master Gardener Volunteer Barb Snyder will be discussing “Planting for Pollinators.”
Her presentation will involve how to create a habitat that is friendly to pollinators such as bees, which will help your garden plants have better pollination, creating a more bountiful harvest. Charlie Searson, another Hardin County Master Gardener Volunteer, will be conducting a garden demonstration of planting a Bare Root Rose using proper methods and technique. Refreshments and door prizes will be provided for guests.
This garden workshop will be held from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm on Saturday, April 18 at Harco Industries. The address is 750 N. Ida Street in Kenton. There will be a $10 registration cost which can be sent to Hardin County Master Gardener Treasurer Ken Carlson, 16344 St. Rt. 309 E., Kenton, OH 43326 by April 11.
More information about this April 18 garden program can be obtained by calling the Hardin County Extension office at 419-674-2297 or visiting the Hardin County OSU Extension Master Gardeners Facebook page.
