McGUFFEY - The visiting Ada volleyball team swept local arch-rival Upper Scioto Valley in a non-conference volleyball match to end the regular season Thursday night on an up note.

Ada won 25-13, 25-16, 25-16 to end the regular season 9-11.  

USV fell to 1-14 with the defeat.
         
Senior middle Megan Light led Ada with 11 kills, six digs and  six aces. Versatile senior Miranda Wills compiled 11 kills, seven digs, three blocks and served three aces. 

Junior setter Kirsten Poling doled out 22 assists and also came up with 10 digs, three kills and three blocks.

Monty Eugene Ewing, 76, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2020, at 7:22 p.m. at Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima.

​He was born on March 6, 1944, in Kenton, Ohio, to the late Dwight E. and Hattie M. (Dotson) Ewing. He graduated from Alger High School in 1962. On June 15, 1968, Monty married Joyce K. Rolston and she survives in Alger.

​Monty retired as a Maintenance Carpenter. He worked for over 30 years at General Dynamics and previously worked for Orders Construction. He was a US Army Veteran who served during the Vietnam War. Monty was a member of the Ada VFW Post #9381.

Oct. 23 deadline to indicate an interest in serving in vacant council seat

Bob Simmons, Ada council president, offered comments during the Oct. 6 council meeting about Don Fleming, council member who died eariler this month.

His statement follows:
Tonight we mourn the passing of Don Fleming, our fellow counselor and esteemed colleague. He served the Ada village as counselor for over 39 years.

When I was elected to council seven years ago he saw it as his responsibility to personally mentor me. I always valued his judgement, insight, wisdom and dedication to our village.

The Ohio Athletic Conference has announced its league schedules for men's and women's tennis for the 2021 seasons.

League play will begin against Marietta on March 27, with the regular season ending on May 1.

The OAC Tournament semifinals and finals are slated for May 7-8 at the Lindner Tennis Center in Mason.

As of now, all teams are expected to add non-conference games to their schedules. Those will be posted as they become available.
