Sen. Sherrod Brown was one of many members of the US Senate who co-sponsored a resolution recognizing Senior Corps Volunteers for over 50,000,000 hours served in 2018 of direct service through more than 23,000 nonprofit, educational, and faith-based community groups nationwide.
Senior Corps is a network of national service programs for Americans 55 years and older, made up of three primary programs that each take a different approach to improving lives and fostering civic engagement.
Senior Corps volunteers commit their time to address critical community needs including academic tutoring and mentoring, elderly care, disaster relief support, and more.
Mercy Health – St. Rita’s Medical Center announces construction of an education center designed to train new physicians.
With the support of local donors, St. Rita’s will soon begin construction on a 48,000-square-foot education center to be built on the corner of Market and Collett streets.
“St. Rita’s has a rich history of bringing needed health care to our patients and medical advancements to our community,” said Bob Baxter, president, Mercy Health – Toledo and Lima. “We now look to the future and our commitment to further the care of the Lima region through the recruitment and education of our next generation of medical professionals.”

The Ada Alligators beat Shawnee in their season-opener at home Thursday, June 6.
Ada won the combined team meet score, 415-192. The Gator boys triumphed 247-99 while the Alligator girls lost a close bout, 193-168.
J.J. Spyker (boys 11-12 age bracket) and Lily Baumgartner (girls 11-12) each won three races to pace Ada to victory.
Gators winning two events were: Landon Stahler (boys 11-12); Charlie Spyker and Tommy Spyker (boys 15-18); Joey Spyker (boys 13-14); Carlie Oldfield (girls 13-14); and Tim Chrissobolis (boys 9-10).
The Farmers and Merchants Picnic board needs your help for this year’s event, held Saturday, Aug. 10.
The board seeks volunteers from the community, according to Yvonne Bonham.
“Volunteers are needed for several events. If you are unable to take on an entire event, we could use volunteers for just an hour or two,” said Bonham.

Karen Ward has solved your letter problems. She has created several post cards featuring familiar Ada scenes. The cards are available at Gallery for the Arts, 115 S. Main St., at $1.50 each. Among scenes featured are the Ada water tower, depot, ONU scenes and an Ada sunrise.

For the time period of May 1-May 31, 2019 Hardin County Extension rainfall reporters recorded an average of 5.12 inches of rain in Hardin County.
Last year, the average rainfall for the same time period was 3.40 inches. Rainfall for May was 0.89 inches more than the 10-year average rainfall for the month.
Liberty Township rainfall, recorded by Phil Epley, measured 4.12 inches. Liberty's rainfall for the growing season from April 15 was 8.31 inches.
Lynn Township received 6.33 inches of rain for May, the highest amount of the township sites.
