"This week's Ada Icon Veggie Garden of the Week belongs to Lee Ann and Dustin Jordan and their daughter, Selena, (in the middle).

The Jordans have grown a garden in their back yard on South Johnson for many years. Their garden this year promises high yields, although recent rains and rabbits have taken their tolls on their beets and lettuce.

Their one-eyed owl stands guard.

The Ada Veggie Garden of the Week highlights vegetable gardens in the Ada area as a way of promoting self-sufficiency and agriculture education.

The West Ohio Food Bank invites Ada Icon viewers to assist in a food distribution from noon to 3 p.m.,  Wednesday, July 15, on the Ohio Northern University campus.

“You can assist with passing out or loading food, with registrations, and to work side by side with Ohio National Guard soldiers as they continue their mission with food banks across Ohio,” said a food bank representative.

Either call 419-222-7946 or just show up around noon.

The distribution takes place in the Lakeview parking lot near Loop Road and the Freed Center.

The $2.5 million Lincoln Avenue reconstruction project moves west. The east portion of the project, from Union to the Ada Medical and Diagnostic Center, is nearly finished and vehicles may now use it. The project now moves west of the diagnostic center to Klingler Road.
