Brenna Hissong: "I like the idea of creating something new, something that didn't exist before and seeing the art go through the different stages from beginning to end"
This is the first in a monthly series
featuring Ada High School artists -
Brenna Hissong, Ada High School senior, holds artwork that she started last spring and finished during remote learning.
It's an acrylic "hard edge" painting on wood. The image she worked from is a photo of her running track. Brenna is currently in Art 4, and has taken Art 1, 2, and 3 during high school.
She is captain of the varsity girls' soccer team and also runs high school track.
About her interest in art, she says: "I have loved art from a very young age. Mrs. Sperling's elementary Art class was always one of my favorites.
Ada first graders in Mrs. Etgen’s class explore their surroundings as the school year begins. This photo shows projects displayed on the wall outside the classroom. The top row is “all about me.” It shares what students like to do and shows their family. The bottom projects includes reflections on making connections.
The West Ohio Food Bank conducted a food distribution on "Hunger Action Day" on Sept. 10, on the campus of Ohio Northern University.
During the event, 100 families, most from Hardin County, were served. The West Ohio Food Bank distributed 38,356 pounds of food during the afternoon.
“September is Hunger Action Month, and the West Ohio Food Bank, an affiliate member of national organization Feeding America, continues to try to do major distributions in all 11 counties it serves throughout western Ohio,” said Jason Aldrich of the food bank.
The Ohio National Guard assisted in the distribution.
Deb Curlis: “It will go a long way in assisting Beatitudes with food distribution emergencies. It’s local organizations like EDP Renewables that make a difference in Ada.”

Beatitudes of Ada received a $5,000 donation for its emergency food pantry on Tuesday from the Hog Creek Wind Project’s parent company EDP Renewables.
Eric Rivera, operations manager of the project, presented the check. Deb Curlis, Beatitudes manager, and several board members attended the check presentation and toured the 30-turbine project’s office located in Washington Township east of Ada.
Board members attending were Jennifer Grant, board president, Susan Hord, board secretary, David McDonald, board treasurer, and Becky Neville, board member.
