In bloom this month in the railrod depot park

 How does your garden grow?

A garden in Ada this summer puts on a one-of-a-kind show this month. It’s in the historic Ada railroad depot park on Main Street.

Despite that it lacks silver bells, cockleshells and pretty maids all in a row, the blooms are inspiring. You'll find daylillies, rudbeckia, hydrangea, vinca, blue-eyed Mary, coneflowers, celosia, a red hibiscus and several unidentified beauties.

The blooms add to the attraction of picnic tables, restored Pennsylvania Railroad caboose, Civil War cannon and a restored passenger station.

Attached are 13 of the sample blooms you will see. (Thanks to Monty Siekerman for many of the flower idenifications)

Thanks for the Ada Lions Club, swimming at the Ada Municipal Pool is free during the F & M Picnic on Saturday, Aug 10.

The pool is open from 1 to 8 p.m. and the free swim is sponsored by the club.

Op-ed column in July 26 Columbus Dispatch

Ohio Northern University law professor Deidré Keller wrote an op-ed titled “Treatment of migrant children goes beyond rule of law,” which ran July 26 in the Columbus Dispatch.

Joined by Professor Karen Hall, she expresses concern that these children are being traumatized, which comes with a lifetime of consequences, and calls for compassionate policy change.

This isn't the famous Richard the Rooster who ocassionally haunts Ada with its presence. Instead, it's a rooster with an attitude. You'll find it in the Mercantile on Main, 117 S. Main St., Ada. Sometimes it's in the store window, other times it moves around.
