Women in first place after first day of OAC championships
Sophomore Maddy Reed (Lucasville/Piketon) set a new school and Ohio Athletic Conference record in the pole vault, while the 4x800-meter relay team of sophomore Avery Ewing (Kokomo, Ind./Eastern), junior Emily Richards(Delaware/Hayes), and seniors Genevieve Marchese (Beavercreek/Carroll) and Nicole Huber (Findlay) set a new school record to lead the Ohio Northern women's track and field team on the first day of the OAC Championships at Muskingum University.
The Polar Bears currently sit in first place after the first day of competition with 63 points.
Reed led a 1-2 punch in the pole vault as she won the event in a school and OAC-record vault of 13' 0.25", while junior Kelly Wollenslegel (Clyde) also earned All-Conference honors and finished second in the event with a jump of 12' 3.00".
The 4x800-meter relay team posted a new school record time of 9:19.47 to claim first place in the event.
Senior Kendra Paul (Ada) was also named All-OAC as she finished second in the javelin with a toss of 122' 2.00".
Senior Rebecca Carman (Bellefontaine) advanced to the finals in the 100-meter hurdles for Northern, finishing in a career-fast time of :15.33.
In the 400-meter dash, senior Michelle Mosler (Wapakoneta) advanced to Saturday's final, finishing in 1:00.30.
Sophomore Taylor Fisher (Wapakoneta) advanced to Saturday's finals in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing sixth in the prelims in 1:05.66.
Sophomore Ashlie Baumann (Sterling Heights, Mich./Stevenson) concluded the first day of the meet with a third place finish in 40:12.95 to claim All-OAC honors.
