Lots of tradition at Ada's Memorial Day observance

Photos and story by Monty Siekerman
Ream McElroy VFW Post 9381 and American Legion 185 held the annual Memorial Day service for the community in Woodlawn Cemetery on Monday afternoon with Dr. Donald Traxler the featured speaker.

“Let freedom ring throughout Ada and the world,” Don said to those assembled. “Thank you to all of the men and women who have served in the Armed Services. Thank you especially to those who gave the supreme sacrifice, the giving of their lives. Thank you to all the men and women who have had men and women in their families serve in our Armed Forces.”

Several Ohio Northern University students have been recognized for their leadership on campus. The DeBow Freed Award for Outstanding Student Leadership as an Undergraduate Student is presented annually to one male and one female student from each undergraduate class. The award recognizes recipients for their positive leadership in the campus community.

The awards were first presented in 1999 and are named in honor of the former president and president emeritus of the University, who has dedicated his life to the virtue of servant leadership.

At the turn of an earlier century running water was piped into Ada homes and businesses. Here's a photograph of the Ada water works building. From the collection of Lee Crouse.
