The Ohio Northern women's basketball team held Willamette (Ore.) to just two points over the final 11:24 of the contest, but a 14-point deficit was just too much to overcome in a 43-41 loss on the second day of the 9th annual D3hoops.com Classic on Friday afternoon at the South Point Arena.

The Polar Bears (7-5 overall) finish their portion of the four-day tournament with a 1-1 record. They were led by junior Abby Weeks (West Chester/Mount Notre Dame) with 11 points and junior Emily Mescher (Maria Stein/Marion Local) with 10 points.

After more than 50 years of writing for newspapers, my career comes to an end with this last story, a fun and frivolous account of Richard the Rooster. Fun and frivolity, every life needs some of that. Too many media reports are full of doom gloom or make you scared to even stick your toe out of the door. Here is the history of Richard the Rooster, a wild cock that makes his home among the residents in the 500 block of South Johnson Street.

ADA - After a slow start, visiting Upper Scioto Valley outscored tournament host Ada by 16 points over the final three periods to post a 44-35 win over their backyard rival in semifinal Border Battle girls basketball tournament action Thursday night.

The Lady Bulldogs fell to 1-8 with the defeat. Meanwhile, the Lady Rams improved to 1-7 with their first win and advanced to the second annual tourney finals Saturday against Allen East.

Ada raced to an 11-2 lead as sophomore post Megan Light netted three inside baskets. But USV switched to a 2-3 zone defense and the Bulldogs were unable to solve it.
