The No. 18-ranked Ohio Northern volleyball team swept Denison 25-14, 25-13, 25-9 on Wednesday night at the ONU Sports Center.

 

The Polar Bears (4-1 overall) had six runs of at least five consecutive points to dominate the Big Red (1-3).

The Polar Bears will have a quick turnaround with just one day off before playing three matches at the Bluffton Spiketacular Friday and Saturday.

Lots of community events are on the Ada Area Chamber of Commerce fall calendar.

The events include those sponsored by the chamber or by chamber members. The following events were announced at the chamber board meeting on Sept. 5:

Performances Nov. 15-16-17-30 and Dec. 1-2

Ohio Northern University will hold children’s auditions for “The ONU Holiday Spectacular” at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 9 at the Freed Center.

Auditions will be held for singers and dancers ages 5 to 12. Those auditioning may be asked to sing and should be ready to participate in a dance call (jazz and/or tap shoes). No prepared dance or vocal solos, please.

Nov. 15,16 and 17 – Ohio Northern University performances
Nov. 30; Dec 1 and 2 – Lima performances.

ADA - The Ada boys soccer team defeated visiting Northwest Conference foe Lincolnview 3-1 Tuesday evening at the park.

The Bulldogs improved to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the NWC with the victory.

Sophomore Jacob Poling scored a goal off a Jon Allen assist.

Junior Skylar Williams netted a goal from Chris Reyes. Sophomore Jacob Thaxton scored the other goal from a feed by Wyatt Rettig.

Junior keeper Drew Hadley made six saves in goal.

The Bulldog reserves also beat Lincolnview in a half game, 2-0. Poling and Andrew Rush tallied the Ada JV goals.

Ada (2-2 home) plays host to NCOSA foe Cory-Rawson Thursday, September 13.

To mark the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I, Dr. Karl Roider will teach a course on the Great War at the Ada Public Library beginning today (Wednesday). His first talk will be on the Origins of War at 3:30 p.m.

 

All are welcome, and the program is free of charge.

 

Dr. Roider is retired professor and dean at Louisiana State University. He grew up in Ada where his father served as ONU music department chair for many years. He returned to Ada several years ago following retirement.
