Eighty one Ohio Northern student-athletes were named Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference in the 10 spring sports for 2025.

Men's track and field and cross country led all teams with 16 honorees. Women's track and field and cross country had 15, baseball had 11, men's lacrosse had nine, softball and women's tennis had seven each, women's lacrosse and men's tennis had five each and men's and women's golf had three each.

The award winners must be a sophomore or higher in class standing, maintain varsity status and have a cumulative grade-point-average of at least 3.50.

On December 21, 1967, the movie The Graduate was released. Dustin Hoffman starred in the movie as Benjamin Braddock, who just graduated from college with a Bachelor’s degree and has moved home to Pasadena, California. The actor Walter Brooke, who played Mr. McGuire, gives Benjamin his advice for the future.  He tells him one word—plastics! “There’s a great future in plastics.”

Floyd L. Cleveland, age 87, of Harrod, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at Lima Memorial Health System.  

Floyd was born on January 2, 1938 in Johnsburg, NY to the late James and Katherine (Martin) Cleveland.  Floyd first married Dena Wescot and she preceded him in death in 1999. He later married Sara Weddle and she preceded him in death in 2017. 

He retired from Barton Garnet Mine where he worked as a machinery operator.  He was a U.S. Army Veteran.  Floyd was a member of the LaFayette Congregational Christian Church.

ADA – Ada will host its first-ever softball camp on Monday, June 23 from 4-7 p.m. at War Memorial Park, 115 N. Park Drive.

The camp is open to those who will be in grades 7-12 during the 2025-26 school year. Cost of the camp is $60, to be submitted no later than June 16. Rain-out date is June 24.

Warm-ups will start at 3:45 p.m. Players should bring softball equipment to the camp, including their visor, glove, bat, sunglasses, sunblock and water.

Ohio State All-Big 10 first team selections Kami Kortokrax and Reagan Milliken will be on hand to instruct at the camp.

Paul and Nancy Oestreich of Ada, Ohio, will celebrate 65 years of marriage on June 11, 2025.

Paul worked in the agricultural business where he managed grain elevators in LeMoyne Ohio, Ada Ohio, Wapakoneta Ohio, New Carlisle Ohio and Niles Michigan over his 45 year career.  He spent the last 10  years or so direct marketing of  grain for farmers working for Limaco in Urbana Ohio.
