Thursday, Dec. 8, is one of the most fun days of the school year at Ada elementary. (There's lots of learning that takes place, too.)
The Ada Academic Boosters bring COSI on Wheels to kindergarten through fifth graders. The day also includes hands-on learning for elementary students. The Booster need volunteers to make the day a success.
"This is a major undertaking and takes a lot of volunteers to make happen. We are looking for 15-20 volunteers to spend half or all of the day with us from 8 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. on Dec. 8," according to Lori Poling.
Buzzing with activity, noise and challenges, construction job sites provide a learning lab that can’t be replicated in the classroom.
That’s why 21 civil engineering students in Dr. Ahmed Abdel-Mohti’s Structural Analysis class spent an entire day exploring job sites and talking with engineers in the field.
The Ohio Contractor Association (OCA) sponsored the “Constructor for a Day” program earlier this fall in Toledo. Students from other local universities also participated in the program.
Wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving from the Bluffton Icon. Here's a Thanksgiving post card sent in 1914 from Werner Althaus, living in Toledo, to his sister, Bertha Hahn, living in Bluffton. The message is on the back of the card. Werner makes a reference about coming to Bluffton. That trip would have been on the interurban that passed down Main Street, Bluffton.
According to the November elementary school newsletteer, Ada elementary students with help from the Ada community recently decided the characteristics that make up an Ada Bulldog.
Students will study these characteristics throughout school year and focus on developing these qualities in each student.

For 25 years, the WONB radio station has allowed Ohio Northern University students to find their voice. The station, an integral part of the University’s multidiscipline learning experience, is marking its silver anniversary this fall.
The first broadcast over the air took place at 9:49 a.m. on Oct. 18, 1991. The time was intentional to pay tribute to the station’s frequency of 94.9 FM. The station, which is located in the Freed Center for the Performing Arts and is part of the Department of Communication and Media Studies, provides students of all majors with valuable experience while also serving the region.
